Dyson cleaner-head compatibility: check before replacing

Identify the vacuum, cleaner head and connection before buying a replacement Dyson attachment or requesting a Brisbane repair quote.

By Phone Medic Milton · Updated 9 October 2026

Dyson cleaner-head compatibility needs to be checked for the exact machine and part. A head that looks similar in a listing is not enough to confirm that it belongs on your vacuum. Start with identification before deciding whether the existing head should be repaired or replaced.

Record the vacuum and the head separately

Send the full vacuum model and a clear view of any label on the cleaner head. Include a photo of the connection and wand if you can share images with the workshop. A label on an attachment does not necessarily identify the vacuum body. Our model identification guide explains what to look for.

Compare part numbers, not just product names

Dyson’s model-specific parts pages list different cleaner heads, rollers, end caps and tools with their own compatibility information. Check the exact part listing rather than assuming that every attachment shown under a familiar name will fit. The V8 parts page, for example, distinguishes complete heads from smaller head components.

Do not force a connector that will not engage normally, modify its latch or try to adapt a powered connection yourself. Ask the workshop to check an uncertain combination before using it.

Explain what is wrong with the existing head

  • Stationary roller: the vacuum runs, but the brush bar does not turn.
  • Intermittent operation: the roller stops when you move the head or wand.
  • Physical damage: a wheel, neck, catch or roller is visibly broken.
  • Poor pickup: debris is left behind even though the roller turns.

These observations help prepare an enquiry; they do not prove that the entire head needs replacing. Bring the affected head and wand with the main vacuum body. If the roller has stopped, start with our brush-bar guide for owner-maintenance checks.

Repair, component or complete replacement?

Ask which option the quote covers and why. Depending on the actual fault and available parts, the team may need to compare a component repair with a complete replacement. Confirm the proposed part, compatibility, total cost, availability and warranty terms before approval.

Tell us about any attachment bought separately or any adapter already in use. We do not operate a live parts catalogue, so a repair enquiry is not confirmation of stock.
