First note whether the vacuum itself runs normally and whether the problem affects one cleaner head or every powered attachment. That distinction is useful when requesting a repair.
Check owner-serviceable parts
- Switch off and disconnect the charger.
- Look for hair or debris around the roller and its ends.
- If your model allows the brush bar to be removed for maintenance, follow its manual. Do not force clips or dismantle the head motor.
- Check that the head and wand are properly connected and have no obvious physical damage.
Not every roller can be washed
Different heads have different maintenance instructions. Only wash a component when the instructions for that exact head say it is washable. Keep electrical components dry, and let washable parts dry fully before reassembly.
When clearing hair is not enough
If the roller remains stationary after approved maintenance, the head, wand connection or power supply may need assessment. A damaged roller or noisy mechanism also needs inspection before further use.
Bring the affected attachment
Bring the cleaner head and wand with the vacuum body. A photo of the head’s label and a description of any rattling, stopping or intermittent behaviour will help with the initial enquiry.
Check the instructions for the exact head using Dyson Australia model support.
